An enlarged variant of the popular Mercedes D III.
An example of extremism in engineering. The idea was to increase the power output by enlarging the capacity of the existing Mercedes D III engine. Two cylinders were added, resulting in the 8-cylinder inline giant. The problems with fuel supply and the crankshaft strong vibrations appeared. Therefore the idea was soon abandoned. A short series was manufactured and used to power the Albatros D.V fighter.
