Aircraft engine: Bentley BR.1
Great Britain
rotary engine
1915
Configuration | 9-cylinder radial |
Displacement | 10.8 l |
Cooling | air-cooled |
An improved version of the French Clerget engine, built on licence. It has aluminium cylinders and pistons (apart from steel cylinder heads) which limited the engine's weight. This feature led also to the decreasing of the engine/propeller unit's torque.
The Bentley BR.1 may be seen on the Sopwith F.1 Camel fighter.
