The development of the VK-1A engine (licence-built in Poland as the Lis-2) led to its consecutive variant, the VK‑1F. It was equipped with afterburner with two position, controllable exhaust nozzle. This engine was also produced on licence in Poland (as Lis‑5), along with the licence-built Mig‑17F (Lim‑5). The engine production in Poland ended in 1984. Lis‑5 engines were fitted to Lim‑5 (MiG‑17F), Lim‑5P (MiG‑17PF), Lim‑6M and Lim‑6bis aircraft.
