A radial engine unorthodox in being water-cooled.
The engine was designed by a duo of Swiss designers Georges Marius Henri-Georges Canton and Pierre Unné and built at Societe de Moteurs Salmson in Billancourt. The Z 9 was another of a series of water-cooled Salmson radials. It was used in the Salmson 2A2 and Farman F.60 Goliath aircraft.
