An engine fitted with a single-stage supercharger, designed by Hellmuth Hirth. A characteristic feature was the crankshaft, assembled from joint elements and the propeller and crankshaft joined by so called Hirth’s joint. It was used in the Messerschmitt Bf 108C and Heinkel He 116 aircraft.
